Dennette Jackson

A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Dennette Alene Odum Jackson of Milledgeville will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013. Services will convene at 11 a.m. at The Chapel of All Faiths, 252 Swint Avenue, Milledgeville, with the interment following at Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 16, 2013.Though a long-time member of Flagg Chapel Baptist Church, she was currently a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She leaves a legacy of service to the community serving in many capacities, making history as the first African American council woman with the City Of Milledgeville for 12 years, serving four of those years as mayor pro tem. She served on the advisory council of The Georgia War Veterans Home, served several terms as president of The American Legion Unit 523, first African American to serve as president of the sixth district of the State of Georgia American Legion Auxiliary. She was member of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, chairman of the Oconee Community Service Board, president of local chapter of AARP No. 5387.

She leaves a legacy of love and memories to be cherished by her children: Patricia A.Hogan, Barbara M. Vann, Judy Diane Henderson, Bernice Jackson Veal (Leo Jr.), and Willie L.Jackson Jr.,  all of Milledgeville; one sister, Harriette O.French; two sisters in law,  Zenora Odum and Eva Jackson, both of Milledgeville; 19 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, the late Willie Lee “Bubba” Jackson, and her parents, Albert and Lula Franklin Odum.
